GMC + Call of Duty

Virtual City

Broadcast + Virtual Production Effie Studios

We built a virtual city and drove the all-electric GMC HUMMER EV through it for the Call of Duty League broadcast package.

The Challenge

Call of Duty represents the state of the art in gaming. The all-electric GMC HUMMER EV points to the future of the automotive industry. A collaboration between the two needed to embody those same cutting-edge qualities.

Our Approach

We designed a virtual city in Unreal Engine, developed the concept through previsualization, then carried the same digital environment into LED-stage production and final CG animation.

The Result

A single visual world connected every phase of the project—from concept frames to live-action interiors and close-ups to fully rendered exterior driving shots—creating a unified, broadcast-ready campaign.

Previsualization

We created previsualization renders in Unreal Engine to demonstrate the concept before shooting with the physical vehicle. Production and visual effects then used the same digital assets, creating a direct line from the earliest frames to the finished piece.

On the Volume

Close-ups and interiors were shot on a virtual production stage at Orbital Studios in Los Angeles. LED screens surrounded the physical HUMMER EV with the virtual city, while camera tracking synchronized perspective and movement in real time.

Final CG

Wide shots were created in Unreal Engine using the same city environment developed for previsualization and stage production. That continuity gave the finished campaign visual consistency across concept, live action, visual effects, and final delivery.
